How Much Egyptian Citizenship Costs in 2026: The Four Investment Options and All Fees

Egypt has a short official price list, but each line works differently. In two options the money is spent, in two it stays yours for a while. The amounts below are from the investment programmes page of the official portal, checked on 26 October 2026.
The four options in detail
1. Contribution to the state treasury: $250,000
A non-refundable transfer from abroad to the state treasury. It can be paid in instalments over up to one year. This is the lowest entry and the simplest file: no asset to choose and nothing to hold.
2. Property: $300,000
You buy property for at least $300,000 transferred from abroad. Since Law No. 28 of 2023 it may be bought from a private developer or owner, not only from the state. If you sell it before five years, you must pay $250,000 to the treasury to keep the citizenship. Instalments over up to one year are allowed.
3. Investment project: $350,000 plus $100,000
You create or join a project of at least $350,000 under Investment Law No. 72 of 2017 and pay $100,000 to the treasury, which is not returned. If the project is closed or sold before five years from its launch, $250,000 is due to keep the citizenship. The portal headlines this option as “from $450,000”.
4. Deposit: $500,000 for three years
You place $500,000 in a special account at the Central Bank of Egypt. After three years it is returned in Egyptian pounds at the Central Bank rate on the date of return, without interest. The currency risk stays with you.
The fee
| Fee | Amount | Refundable |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee, per application | $10,000 | no |
The portal says the fee is paid by bank transfer from abroad to the Cabinet’s account at the Central Bank. BRIDGES states it is charged once per application. One older BRIDGES article says “per applicant”, so I ask the agent to confirm in writing.
Totals for a family
| Option | Applicant + wife + children under 21 |
|---|---|
| Contribution | $260,000 |
| Property | $310,000 |
| Project | $460,000 |
| Deposit | $510,000 |
These are official amounts only. A parent or an adult child who wants citizenship needs a separate application with a separate investment and fee.

What is not in the official list
Sworn translations, legalisation at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the medical examination in Egypt, trips to Cairo, the agent’s fee and, for property, the transaction costs. BRIDGES estimates the real total for the contribution route at roughly $265,000 to $275,000 for the main applicant. For property it gives roughly $315,000 to $325,000.
Which option makes sense
- Contribution: speed and simplicity matter more than getting money back.
- Property: you want an asset on the Red Sea or in Cairo and can hold it five years.
- Project: you plan a business in Egypt anyway.
- Deposit: you have the capital and want it back, accepting the pound risk.
How the payments fit into the procedure is in the application guide. The BRIDGES breakdown is in its article on Egyptian citizenship cost.
Questions and answers
Is $250,000 the full price?
No. It is the minimum contribution. Every application also pays a $10,000 fee, so the official minimum is $260,000. Translations, legalisation, the medical examination, trips to Cairo and the agent's fee come on top.
Does a family pay more?
Not for the wife and children under 21: the investment and the fee are charged once per application. Parents, siblings and children from 21 need their own applications with their own investment.
Can I pay in instalments?
Only for the $250,000 contribution and the $300,000 property option, over up to one year. Citizenship is granted only after full payment.
Is the money returned if I am refused?
The $10,000 fee is never returned. If you stop paying instalments or withdraw, what you paid is returned in Egyptian pounds at the Central Bank rate on the date of return, capped at the rate on the date of payment, without interest.
